The questions asked, what skills do you need to be a baseball player? Well, you're going to need a lot of different skills for baseball. Baseball is not unlike some of the other sports where just speed, strength, and stature matter. Baseball players can be small in many cases, and baseball players can be large in others. But, a lot of skills are involved to be a baseball player. Number one, we have to be able to have some foot speed and be able to run quickly, not only just in rare, raw speed but also have quickness in starting. We also have to be able to be a smart base runner and know when to run and when not to run. We also need soft hands in catching the ball. We need to be able to cradle the ball and not make errors, and not muff the ball, and be able to run to distances quickly and to the correct distance, and then catch the ball with soft hands. We need a strong throwing arm, we not only need to be able to throw it far, but we need to be able to throw it fast, so, we need to note that as a skill. We also need to be able to hit, not only for average, but in hopefully, in some cases at least, to be able to hit for some power. So, we need to be able to develop the skills of running, throwing, catching, hitting, and then there's other skills like bunting, and the actual pitching of the baseball which is an entirely different skill from just throwing. The pitcher has to have different mechanics and different skills even from that of a short stop, even though their both throwing the ball, the pitcher needs to be able to throw different pitches to accomplish his goal. Catchers are a completely different subject all in of itself. The catching position is, the catcher has to be able to spend a long period of time in a squatting position, have great soft hands, be able to block the ball which is a skill, and to be able to throw quickly also to any of the bases should someone attempt to steal. So, there are many skills involved in baseball and I would suggest if you want to be a baseball player, that you'll get busy as soon as possible to get out in the yard with dad, or get out with brother or one of your friends, and to learn the correct fundamentals of all of these skills, because throwing, catching, running, hitting and these other things mentioned all are very specific skills with certain fundamentals. So, go to work and that's what you'll learn, when you learn what skills are needed to be a baseball player.
